Not even a decade ago, the number of cars that Woodhaven would get, would oftentimes be less than the amount of carloads they are getting now. If it's "drying up," I'd imagine it will be temporary, especially with all the development in Lakewood.

Even if it's a more permanent trend, this line has far more customer potential than just lumber yards.

I think he may be referring to the fact that the Lakewood area is becoming over-built. They are running out of space to build.

I understand the cars in Red Bank will return to Brown's. In the meantime, who pays the per diem on the cars, and who pays for the undelivered loads? Are they "on hold" due to non-delivery? Did Woodhaven pay for the loads already, or does it depens upon delivery? FOB (Free On Board) for the shipper, to be paid by the consignee? COD?

All that lumber is worth something. Just wondering who is responsible while it sits.

In my trucking days, I was a day late with a delivery and the receiver refused the load. My broker also refused responsibility and I owned the load, whether I wanted it or not. Luckily, it was a load of Texas strawberries and I managed to sell the entire load, and made a small profit to boot. Otherwise, I bought the load, whether I could sell it or not. I'm just wondering if this is the case with Woodhaven's lumber.

The cars in question at Red Bank are all empty, the loads were delivered. Conrail is responsible for the car hire to each home road, and lease company every day the car sits ( except TTX cars as those are considered on the home road on Class 1's). They have been in " Shop Status" since they were put there, don't know if that changes the rate at all.

And for my final act, I submit a couple of captures from 5/26/22. I'm off to greener pastures south of the Mason-Dixon Line, so I shall fan the Southern vicariously through you good people.

The short train from Tinton Ave...

And a view of 2 pickle-heads riding the hind car; I believe they jumped on about a quarter-mile north and disembarked at Maxwell Rd. I've heard stories about Lakewood but never saw anyone on the train in this area. I called the authorities, but not to rat on them...I just didn't want someone's mother to receive the news that her boy was dead doing something foolish.

Ciao, and thanks,

You're moving right before the DRRR comes along too! Crazy timing. I wish you the best in your new home!

They are incredibly young. Not sure if hanging off the back or off the side is less dangerous than the other.
I have to say, growing up and seeing the train pass through town at such slow speeds made it tempting to go for a small adventure...
