SA31 working Woodhaven 10:12 PM
  by Bracdude181

No SA38 in the Jitney van. Most likely they will go back Sunday.

Hopefully it’s warmer for the return run. I’ve got icicles hanging off my rear end!

No noise, no smell by me. Just another train down the Southern. That Raritan River flood water over the summer probably cleaned off the oil residue, thankfully she was close enough to the river to 'degrease' her...

4405 was in Manville Yard during the flood. Not sure how high the water got there and have heard several answers to that question whenever I asked. All new roller bearings on the trucks and new paint on the bottom as well. Unsure about the traction motors. Looks like they cleaned the cab interior. Those are the differences I spotted.

The hissing noise went away after the train left Cross Street but that engine still has a pretty bad burning smell to it. Almost as bad as 4452 was, but without the oil spewing everywhere.

The train is still at Woodhaven as of 12:40 PM with no crew in sight.

Well, I hope all is well at rrpicturearchives.net, the site has been down for over 24hrs right now. Anywho, here is a shot of the SA-31 crew yesterday, causing all kinds of traffic issues on Black Friday in Monmouth county.....

Never seen that much traffic there before. That’s almost as much traffic as there is in Lakewood on any given day.

It probably doesn't help that the crossings are still set for 25 MPH operation.

@CR7876 Yep. All the roads are like that except in Lakewood where some are wired for like 10-15 ish.

Just received word that work has begun on the Squankum road crossing rebuild.

Interestingly it appears that they may be putting cement ties in the track.....

I had heard that the project was delayed due to an NJDOT issue with the detour. Glad it is happening.

@CR7876 That road desperately needs it. The crossing surface is still the old wooden plank style from the CNJ days, and the wire for the circuit is stapled to that wood and would constantly be destroyed by road traffic and sometimes by the train as well. Personally if it were up to me I’d be putting a big cantilever and gates in. Almost every time a train goes through there someone tries the beat the train while going 55+ MPH. There’s gonna be a major crash there one day.

The project was scheduled to start on Tuesday Nov 30th and last until Thursday Dec 2nd. I've been told its postponed until further notice. Hopefully it won't be too long.

@CR7876 Guess the train will run through and break the circuit wire again this week. Ugh!
