CP had a DuPont rebuild program for the other F barns and the SD40-2's, but I don't think any more have been done in a year or so. Pretty much they were just painting them and doing some minor upgrades to keep them in service.

I was just questioning why it's presence at that location seemed to indicate to some it was going for a rebuild.

AFAIK 9017 and one blue barn (forget which) are considered by CP as heritage units with attached orders to stay in current scheme (unless those orders have been rescinded) , but there also seemed to some concern about it getting painted red, so I was just asking why there was any reason to think either a rebuild or repaint was happening (beyond the usual railfan doom and gloom speculation about all things big and small :P )?

That was the commentary of several users on the Elkhart VR cam shortly after it passed, and from folks who generally seem to know what they're talking about on there.

However that seems not to be the case, as it has spent the last two weeks bouncing back and forth on NS between Indiana and Chattanooga.

It had been mentioned by several reputable sources in the Canadian Railway Observations group over the last few months. Granted, the orders regarding the paint job on the 9017 and the remaining CMQ painted barns (if any are left at this point) were done preCPKC, additionally the person who first put that information out on the internet hasn't had the best record with information... Or selling Vermont Rail System railfan guides...

CPKC is CP. Just appeasing the former KCS folks by throwing them a bone. I can't imagine that ownership of KCS would change anything related to CP mechanical dept. policies, other than with regard to units acquired from former KCS and some reshuffling of power to put the collective whole to best use. I would think if anything the change we shoudl fear would be to retire the SD40-2Fs, not to undo existing paint policy.

So far it seems to just be running around leased and/or balancing HP hours on NS, so hopefully 9017 is safe... I got screwed out of my one good chance to see it, and it's been out west on CP ever since.

Its not being used to repay HP hours, its dead and drained per a post on Flickr.

It sure is getting dragged around a lot then...

9020 has landed in Bensenville, IL. Supposedly that unit is going in for a rebuild. We'll see.

Anyone seen or heard anything about 9017 after NS took it on it's tour of the midwest?

It's been at Progress Rail in Mayfield, KY, since around mid July.

CMQ 3812, 3816, and 3817 are still at CAD in Montreal. One is being used as a shop switcher currently and the other two are operational again from what was passed along. CPKC terminated the lease on them so they will be finding new homes soon.
Yesterday CPKC pulled the last 8 units out of Derby. The group includes: LTEX 2525, 2550, 2558, 2573, 2542, 2516, 2540, & 2535. All are missing lights and it looks like 2535 and one of the others had quite a few parts pulled. A few of them died after arriving and CMQ used them as parts donors. 2573 and 2540 were the last two to operate somewhere around 2017-2019 when the CIT GP38-3's arrived.

Like I predicted, 9017 has been repainted into CP corporate paint (Yuck).

If the 9020 is also getting red dipped, that leaves just the 9004 as the remaining unit in CMQ paint on CPKC.

The 1002 and 1006 I think are both undergoing rebuild currently, I have seen photos of one of the two with a new cab and a partially sandblasted long hood.

The 3812, 3816 and 3817 are still at CAD.

So much for that employee chosen, much ballyhooed new CPKC paint scheme.

I am not sure what the deal is with that. There have been a few other units to get fresh CP paint lately as well.

I had to do a Google search for "CPKC paint scheme" because I hadn't previously seen any pictures of it.

I don't think it looks too bad.

It does seem odd that locomotives are still being painted in the pre-merger scheme, however.

Regarding repainting the BAR heritage unit, that definitely gets a big ol' thumbs-down from me.

I think the name CPKC is what bugs me most, because when you say it out loud it sounds like "Seepy Casey," which conjures up thoughts of legendary railroader Casey Jones having some kind of oozing wound that's seeping through his bandages.
