A general discussion about shortlines, industrials, and military railroads

In Palmerton Pa, the Chestnut Ridge Railway runs with a former Pittsburg and Shawmut GP10, and has an S2 that was being used until recently. They have two customers, the successor to NJ Zinc, Horsehead Resources, and I believe is an aggregates firm near the end of serviceable track. Sometimes there are only one or two covered hoppers a day, other days there are six or seven, I believe, plus a boxcar for the agg. shipper. Most activity is from early morning to afternoon, and is withing a two mile area.

NS local H66 brings many covered hoppers to the Palmerton Yard. I am trying to get pics of the Chestnut Ridge in action. Looks like they use GP7 #11 most of the time.

Does anyone on this forum ever railfan or see the CHR in action? I'd like to know what their Alco looks like.

FWIW, the active S-2 is two-tone blue, medium/dark blue primarily with the upper part of the unit being light blue. Never seen them in operation, not surprising considering it's short run otuside the plant confines.
