I recently accepted a job offer from CSX and am right in the phase of completing my physical and strength test. To throw a wrench in the works about a week ago my Army Reserve unit gives me orders to report to a 9 week long school with a report date at the end of the month. I was wondering if anyone here has been in the same situation before and how flexible CSX is with scheduling training at the training center for new hires? I emailed the human resources person explaining my situation but I haven't yet heard from them.

I hope CSX will work with you. They are decent when people are deployed. In your case unfortunately they aren't obligated since you haven't established a seniority date. Again, I hope they will work with you to delay your training to coincede with your reserve training. Good luck.

Thanks, everyone I talk to says CSX is very military friendly so hopefully they can push my REDI center training back. Right now the suspense is eating away at the back of my mind. I'm not really used to so little means of communication in getting a job, I would have thought there would be a phone number to call or something.

Unfortunately our society has gotten to the point people lost verbal communication skills. Seems every company in this country big & small require applications online. Tales away the human factor out of the equation.

Setlab:

Your specific situation is covered under a federal law, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA), as ammended, 38 USC 4301.

The Ombudsmen at the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, http://www.esgr.org, are excellent resources who can explain how this law protects you in this situation.

In 2011, CSXT received the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award for their exceptional support of their employees serving in the Guard & Reserve, so you probably don't have much to worry about here.
