Budd RDC power transmission

When I was looking at an RDC. I was trying to figure out how engine power gets to the wheels. I noticed some type of transmission. Does it opperate like an automatic used in firetrucks? Does it change speeds and use a torque converter? Or some type of hydrostatic drive like some tractors? Thanks

The RDC used a twin Disk torq converter same as used in some Militairy tanks.

Thanks.based on the info you gave me I was able to find out more about this system. I remember seeing something like it on a road grader. Very neet how it works.

Does anybody know if the torque converters on Budd cars lock up at a certain speed for direct drive? And am I right in thinking the spicer drive is a two piece telescoping drive shaft with U-joints at both ends?

the spicer drive is gear on axle it is a 90 degree gear driven plus the telescoping cardan shaft.
