Okay. The ill-fatet ICE-TD (Diesel-ICE with Tilting technology) began service in 2001, but were withdrawn (for the first time) as soon as 2003, due to technical problems. After being sidelined for 3 years, service started again in 2007, more or less reliable, but was finally doomed in 2017.
By the end of 2016, only 4 trainsets of 20 were servicable (one fell from the hoists during final preparations in 2001 and was scrapped later due heavy damage) and the remaining 15 were stored for sale. Two trainsets are now converted into the so-called "Advanced Trainlab" for research purposes https://www.deutschebahn.com/en/Digital ... ls-4634900 and the rest is on the scrapline.
The trains were equipped with MU-controls, even together with electric ICE-trainsets, but this was never done in passenger service.
So, for me, seeing "brandnew" trains in the scrapyard is a real strange feeling.
