Has the railroad moved to these? There was some discussion on this a while back, but have not heard anything recently.

there apparently are alpha symbols for some run through trains like the UP/CSX UPS trains, but that is about it

apprently these are used to simplify interchange, but even then, these trains still have a csx train symbol

IE: Q100 I think is one of them

There are some on other RR for example MCSXLAW and MCSXGAL.

the question was about csx, not other railroads

I agree; if one knows the alpha codes it gives a person more "dope" on a given train, especially when it's not one of the regulars on the line. An example from down here:
I heard the DS talking to a RxxLS. Didn't get the origin letter code, but checked my timetable to find that this was a ballast train destined to Harlingen, TX [to upgrade the right-of- way, as it turned out].
