US Navy 614 – an Alco MRS-1 in the Museum’s railroad motive power collection was identified as surplus and therefore deemed as a candidate for deaccession.

Purchase proposals are encouraged and will be given priority, although proposals involving trade for work / services needed / or equipment relevant to our collection will also be considered.

Sale price of this piece has been set at $5000.00 OBO as is / where is available at such to qualified 501c(3)non-profit.

Piece may be withdrawn from sale/trade consideration at any time for any reason.

Good luck with that. It seems like you can't even give away an MRS-1 these days. I can think of at least two operable ones that have been for sale for years. Heck, if nobody wants to buy an RS-11, who would buy an MRS-1? Sad but true.

It appears to be within range considering its condition and prices of EMD switchers which are going for $150,000 to 206,00 by comparison.

Built by ALCO in 1952 as a RSC-2 road switcher for the Seaboard Air Line Railroad, later owned by Seaboard Coast Line, Florida Power & Light an finally sold to Adirondack Railway and used to power trains for the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics. The unit was then sold to the New York, Susquehanna & Western Railroad who used it as a parts unit and they finally retired it an sold the locomotive to private owners. The locomotive was cosmetically restored and has been used as a stationary display. This locomotive has many items missing from it including traction motors and major engine components. Unit is ideal for stationary display and cannot be operated.

Built in 1947 by the ALCO company and used as their plant switcher at their locomotive manufacturing plant in Schenectady NY. This locomotive is in operating condition and ready for service. The mechanical details include: Great body, friction bearings, good wheels, cast shoes, hot water & electric cab heat, air powered reverser, Main Gen #5GT 552 A4, 660 HP McIntosh & Seymour 4 cycle engine, Woodward governor.

Built by ALCO in 1952 for the Detroit & Mackinac Railroad. Some of the mechanical details include: 1,600 H.P, 244 engine, 26L brakes, roller bearings, good wheels, MU compatible. NOTE: Unit is currently bad ordered with a bad bearing that has eaten into the crank shaft.

Builder: Alco/GE Built: 1952 Type: RSX4 H.P.: 1600 Bearings: Roller, Operable and ready for interchange . This had been stored serviceable by the U.S. Army until it was sold to its current owner several years ago. The unit only had 200 miles on it when sold. The prime mover is an ALCO 244-F engine, Main Generator model # 5GT581A1, Aux generator model#5GY27A3 and the unit is equipped with 5GE731F1 traction motors. This unit will be sold with complete electrical drawings, service/operating manual & parts catalog.

NOTE: This unit is in operating condition
