Why were the other FA's gutted of their 244's and replaced with those God-awful "sleds"?

Where is 600 today? Might be good to grab an authoritative report and/or photo of current location.

Bobb's crew make little adjustments to get precisely what they want. Also, I think it's safe to say the parts and fittings seat themselves a little better each time the engine gets hot and used in the manner designed.

Alco 244 Prime mover no long had parts support, along with the main generator that were recycled into gen-sets Also as the L-1's and L-2's were retired,so did the mech forces that knew how to maintain Alco prime movers.

Yes, along with a section of an open end observation car, both of which were purchased by the Oyster Bay RR Museum.
Unfortunately, the Observation car was too far damaged so it was taken apart and the parts put in storage. the rest of the car has been scrapped. The Worlds Fair Cab as it is referred to, has been restored and is on display at the Museum grounds but at the moment is not open to the public due to safety restrictions.

Yes, the same FA cab seen here at Tanglewood Preserve.

BM: This cab is now at OBRM am I right?
I always found this NYWF FA1 cab from the LIRR Pavilion (note the side-facing number boards)
This unit was former New Haven #0402 Alco FA1 and is restored as on display with proper number boards for 1964.It has been restored with both sound effects and has compressed air capabilities to sound the air horns.
The colors are grey and orange just like at the fair.

interesting - and prophetic at the same time. This cab predated the FA power unit conversions
by seven years: 1964/65 NYWF; The FA power unit acquisitions and conversions began in 1971.
Hard to believe the Tanglewood Preserve photo is 40 years ago (!!!)
