That said, if enough people suggested to NYDOT and to the New York Racing Association that they would go to the races if there were a train from NYC on a schedule that worked well with the races, someone may see fit to lay on a, if not seasonal train, a train for the bigger races (kind of like how NCDOT laid on a special train for the US Open).
Instead of pushing back departure time of the Adirondack, it would make more sense to have one of the trains from ALB-NYP start its journey in Saratoga. Amtrak used to have this... called the "Saratogian".

I bet Saratoga could support another departure but having the station be the terminus/origin, to improve timekeeping. Have it make all stops to Albany, then express/semi-express down to NYP.

Nice idea except, crews, equipment, Amtrak in Albany has very little of both. Can or will CP/KCS give of have a slot between Saratoga and Schenectady at the allotted time? The same applies for Metro North, and lastly fit into Penn's schedule.

I wonder how much better the ride will be on the CN Rouse’s Point Subdivision? Faster and smoother?

Faster?? MAS has always been 50mph on the RSP and I don't see it getting any better. With the track work CN SHOULD have cleaned up some of the temporary speed restrictions. The heat restriction is a rule and no amount of track work will make that go away. I'm still willing to bet there are sections of stick rail on the RSP.
Once the train starts back up Monday I may get a chance to look at a TGBO and see what the sub looks like.

Mr. Junkie, my first ride on The Montrealer was August '56, behind steam power over the CV. After X-ing Lake Champlain on the wooden causeway @ 10mph, I don't think anywhere was faster than 50mph, which enabled me to see bilingual X-ing signs - first for this then 15yo kid.

68 years later it's still there, and I think it's now only good for 5mph.

The Adirondack does not cross the lake but will run along side it. Crawling through the red rocks at 30mph with 100 ft or so drop to the lake is a view that cant be matched. Especially during "leaf" season. As for the Canadian side I'm sure much has changed since I made my last trip circa 2014.

Mr. Junkie, I'm aware that the Adirondack does not X Lake Champlain, as it is already on the west side over the D&H. But it does access Gare du Centrale over the CN, rather than Windsor over the NJ.

But the most "remembrance" of that '56 journey was seeing smoke drifting over a CN "Green--" 6-4-6 Sleeper (Pullman operated) that at the time was barely two years old (Stainless "sisters" were NH "--Beach", B&M "Dartmouth--" (Pat's Alma Mater), BAR "--Lake, and Carbon L&N, NCSTL "--Pine"), as well as the bi-lingual X-ing signs.

Incidentally, only such was the time I ever saw Lake Champlain in this life from the ground. The only other time was a '62 flight on a Trans-Canada Viscount YUL-IDL. FL was 140 or so, weather "crystal clear", and from my flightseeing seat, got a complete view of the Lake end to end.
