FEC E8 on BNSF

Post by jz441 » Sat Feb 17, 2007 6:51 pm

Earlier this week we had this FEC E8 come visit us in LA.
Does anyone know the history of this engine? Where did it first run?
Thank you!

Florida East Coast E units were numbered 10XX. I do not think this was a
Florida East Coast engine as the number boards are different for one thing
and there are probably other reasons as well.

I waited around for ya a few days ago to give ya the heads up but got a quit instead.

Anyway the loco is ex MREX, E8-A, EMD Ser # 11494, Blt 7/50, ex C&NW # 5022.

This loco was stored down an industry lead at La Mirada for years. Even made a trip to Fullerton Railroad Days a few years back.

From what I hear, FEC bought the unit. The current reporting marks confirm this as sorts. Could just be for transfer though.

Check out the link. http://www.monadrailway.com/

The unit is operational and has been used in many movies, commercials and TV shows.

I see you got your pics as well!! Nice photo's.

I burned off two rolls of film and also some B&W up close. Did a double take when I first noticed this loco from Citcom!! Did ya see the SOO Line unit as well?
Great visitor for a change, huh?

When I see ya next I'll give ya some copies.
Call me.

Thaks Drawbar... I have people in Europe asking me about this engine, but now I can tell them.

Hm... I never worked much at La Mirada, so I wouldn't know, but now I do remember seeing something down the lead off of main a few years a go.
