But yeah, turning the line over to LRT operated by NJT Bus Division seems like the easiest and most economical future for the PJ Branch. Once NJT installed the DC power supply, transit signals, and any platform improvements, they could theoretically switch over between Arrows and LRVs in one night. (They’d realistically take at least six months, but they could. :P )

If Conductors are in charge, why are they promoted to be Engineer???

A diesel and single Comet would be better for the Dinky than a three-car MLV EMU. An LRV would be far better, and allow for far-off expansion.

Why to people continue to think that there is even a chance that there will be three car MLV EMU on the Dinky? That is not in the plans. It never was and it will never be.

It's important to note that one of the issues with the bus replacement is that bus operators do not wait for late trains the way train operators do when the Dinky is running. Would the bus operators wait when running LRT?

People think this because it corresponds to running the equipment ordered to replace the Arrows when they are retired, when they are retired. Logical, though other reasons metioned do make it impractical.

There have been times when the dinky has departed Princeton Junction minutes before NJT NEC westbound trains arrives. This probably happens more so during rush hour when there are many NJT trains heading westbound and a few of them are tardy.

These substitute buses probably have gotten stuck in a lot of traffic between Princeton and Princeton Junction and that has caused people to miss their trains at the Junction.

The Dinky will never be a three car consist. As other's mentioned, most of the time, one of the two Arrow III cars is open. Given the distance that the dinky runs and the ridership that it get's, three car Multilevel MU set isn't needed. Those three car Multilevel MU sets can be used elsewhere. Many people who live in Princeton have cars as that is essential in that town so they will still drive to Princeton Junction for mainline rail service.

Yes, the dinky waits only as long as it can without endangering the timeliness of its next eastbound departure. During peak times, it is going back and forth frequently enough that it cannot wait, but the wait for the next run is shortest then.

A significant amount of the ridership comes from students, none of whom have cars, and who show up / disappear in bunches around breaks.
I agree the Dinky will not run three cars - I was just explaining why that idea keeps popping up.

The easiest electric fix for the Dinky is probably an arrangement to use a few Silverliner Vs in a rotating pool exchange for SEPTA using a few dual mode locomotives.
