JC mileposts on the fromer Erie mainline now operated by the WNYP end at Salamanca, where the mileposts switch to "SA", miles from Salamanca.

I have to look at my chart, as it's not in front of me, but the JC goes to 414, I think? I'm an idiot if I'm wrong...but I think that's what it is.

Russ -
River? You mean Catherine Creek? It hasn't looked like a river since Hurricane Agnes in '72. And where were you looking at the Glen Route southeast of it?
No idea about the mile post. Maybe some railfan from Hornell moved to Montour and donated it to the trail people.

Yes, Catherine Creek. Doesn't seem to be connected to the trail since it's on the opposite side of the river, and is buried in brush. EwaNelson only saw it because not all the brush has completely leafed-out yet.

If you're out for a drive and want to look, the current 333 is right next to Shawmut Park in Hornell...
There used to be several hardcore railfans in the Montour area. There was a house on 224 that displayed a well-kept cast PRR station sign for many years (and there may have been a switch stand in the yard too IIRC), but it's gone now. Maybe that property east of the canal was another railfan's at some point and he planted old 333 there. No other explanation I can see for it being there. The PRR mile post for that location was 13, located immediately north of the Genesee St bridge. MP0 was at HO tower in Horseheads. Still don't know where you were looking at the Glen Route southeast - it was west of the creek/canal from just north of Millport.

If abandoned, an eager railfan might have been interested in moving it to a different location. Or making a completely "new" one, just to confuse people. :-D

Most correct about placement of mileposts.

The Salamanca mileposts were on the Mahoning Second Sub-division, the original A&GW from Pymatuning to Leavittsburg. Commonly referred to as a bypass though original routing.

The First Sub-division from Cleveland to Pymatuning had MP from 0 to 89 running eastward through Warren, Youngstown and Sharon; the C&MV and its extensions into Pennsylvania.
