In regards to the additional Greenport service, will there be meets with the two sets of equipment and if so where will the two trains meet on the mainline east of Ronkonkoma?

LINYAR:

From reading the proposed Ronkonkoma-Greenport weekend schedule it looks like they will use
one set of equipment and operate four round trips instead of the two that have been scheduled
for a number of years. This change means a second train crew will be assigned to these trains.
One crew operates the two weekend daytime round trips between Ronkonkoma and Greenport.
The set of equipment assigned (usually a DE30 and one or two cars) is changed once a week.

The proposed schedule shows layovers of around an hour at each end - with one at Ronkonkoma
in the afternoon between trains 6253 west and 6252 east just 15 minutes - which means in that
hour that they connect with a westbound and then go back east right after connecting with the
next eastbound arriving train. This is the only "tight" connection of the day. Unless that there is
an extra protect set at Ronkonkoma on weekends (unlikely because of the limits of the diesel
fleet) the one assigned set will have to run late if necessary - at least other end point turns can
allow a late train in one direction to at least try to leave on time on their next trip.

The only day when there are two sets of equipment being used is Fridays in season which is the
day that the trainsets are "swapped out" in which one will deadhead east to Ronkonkoma for the
extra eastbound afternoon trip to Greenport. At some point both trains are together in Greenport
and then the set being replaced operates through to Jamaica in the late evening hours.

This should give you (and anyone interested) an idea how the Greenport Scoot runs...MACTRAXX

The sets that are originating out of Southampton, where are they coming from ? Are they deadheading from Speonk or Montauk?

RestrictOnTheHanger wrote:(6)602 was moved up almost an hour and 20 mins? So nothing replaces the 2am run from Jamaica?
Curious about this one...
