Hello All,

I figured I would start this thread, as inevitably we will talk about CMQR and their motive power. Today in Massachuesetts on Pan Am, CEFX 2037 (A GP20D) is hitching a ride north, waybilled for Bangor, ME. No one knows where it is going but it certainly is possible it is headed for CMQR territory. If so, it will be the first (of probably many more) unit to arrive on property. Keep your eyes and ears open!

Keving Burkholder from the CMQR Yahoo group reports the following:

"More enroute:

Selkirk, IN: CEFX GP15D 1509

Indianapolis-Avon Yard, IN: CEFX 2007, 2018, 2021, 2023, 2039, and 2040.

Thanks for the info!

For the locomotive geeks among us, these would be the first MPI* locomotives to operate on a Maine railroad, and they would also be the first Tier 2 locomotives operated by a Maine railroad (not including foreign run-through power).

* The GP20D and GP15D were marketed as EMD products, but were designed and built by MPI, with Caterpillar engines.

Wonder if they're planning on running these as road power, or if they're meant solely for locals and switching?

Possibly a little of both, depending on what their needs are at any given moment? We'll have to wait and see what else makes the journey to Maine. :-) The GP20D is roughly equivalent to a GP38-2 from an operational standpoint. They have dynamic brakes and are geared for 70 MPH, so they can certainly be used on road trains if needed.

Spotted the CEFX 1509 in Selkirk yard on 4/19 with heavy fire damage around the exhaust stack area, on the roof and side doors. Not sure if it is dead, but it certainly didn't look too healthy.

Any chance you got a photo of the damage?

It looked OK in this photo taken a month ago: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=3775742" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Sorry, no. I didn't have my camera with me.

With this power I'm seeing, I wish Irving would've just bought the whole MM&A.

I kind of expect Irving to own it with in the next couple years. Searsport will have to open up big for freight in the next year or two because is supposedly MMA is losing money

everyday

No pictures but the unit is at LMS right now. It is currently offline so I think it may go north to Derby first for start up. CMQR will use 7 GP20Ds and 8 SD40-2s (Already on property) for the startup.
