Saturday with the CMSL (Tuckahoe Specials)!

Post by JJMDiMunno » Sat Dec 04, 2004 8:14 pm

Hey everyone,
Found out this afternoon around 12-noon that the Cape May Seashore
Lines was running a number of trips out of Tuckahoe today, and so
decided to abandon my CA-11 chase (which was in progress at that
time) and head for the middle of nowhere in an effort to catch some
of this stuff.

Upon my arrival at Tuckahoe, I found CNJ 1523, PRR 7000, the URHS
coach "Erie", the Alex DeCroce tavern/lounge car, and the LV 576 all
sitting on the siding, up north of the station by the tower. After
doing a little investigating, I found out that the 3 runs for the day
had already taken place, and the filters were being changed on the
1523 due to them being pretty clogged, particularly during the last
run. So nothing but some stationary photos from today / tonight, but
still not bad nonetheless:

First off, we see the complete train sitting on the siding, by the
tower. Both lead locomotives had just been buffed and were sparkling
clean:

The other end of the train had LV 576 in the lead, and that can be
seen in the following photograph. Note the change in logo on the
nose of the locomotive from the LV flag to the CMSL herald. Also
note the Conrail Tuckahoe base station antenna which can be seen
behind the locomotive:

I hung around for a while with Curt (who showed up about half hour
after I got there), and spent some time in the Alex DeCroce car until
darkness fell, when I shot the following night images at Tuckahoe:

As darkness takes over the landscape at Tuckahoe, the lights in the
Alex DeCroce tavern/lounge car continue to burn warmly beside the ex-
PRSL tower:

Shutdown for now, but not for long, the CMSL consist sits in the same
spot in which it has sat since I arrived. Soon, the locomotives will
be started once again as the Seashore Lines hustles the consist back
south. Sorry, the light situation here was somewhat poor...I had to
use my car headlights to give me something to work with:

That's all for today folks, take care.

Great pics, thanks as always Mike. Why doesn't the CMSL ever publicize their trips out of Tuckahoe? I remember last December they ran up there too and hardly anyone knew about it.

I've no idea...in fact, this one like others, I just found out in the nick of time. Most of the time, I end up missing it all-together and finding out about it the next day or even later than that...

In any case, they apparently had a very good turnout anyway...they were only supposed to make 2 runs, but had to add another one on in order to accomodate all those that were waiting...
