Located on the Panhandle Division between Pittsburgh and Steubenville, Ohio. Triple-track mainline with ABS and Cab Signals.

EXTRA 6737 WEST (Caboose hop) stopped in accordance with Signal indication at Burgetts.

Train #11 (2 units & 14 cars [12 head-end + 2 coaches]) had operated via Tk. 103 from Laurel Hill to Bulger where it entered Tk. 3 on a "Restricting" signal. The engine crew aledgedly became preoccupied with a problem with the steam generator and pressure and ignored their speed which topped out at about 60 mph, was reduced to about 45 mph and an emergency application was made when the engineer observed both the flagman and the train ahead. Impact speed was about 38 mph; no fatalities and 26 reported injuries.
