The latest CAC newsletter includes an article summarizing the results of a series of focus-group meetings held in February. I can't find a link to the full article on their website (http://www.cleanair.org) but a few bullet items are worth mentioning. No surprises, but it's interesting to see what ordinary riders said. Note these are not my conclusions, although I've said basically the same things at other times. I'm just repeating.

o The most positive aspect of SEPTA's operations is the extent to which you can travel around Center City.

o The service received is not worth even the $1.30 cost of a token let alone the $2 "sucker fare" [now that last one is me talking]. Current service justifies a base fare of around a dollar. Also transfers should be reduced.

o Most SEPTA employees are courteous but "an unacceptably large minority" are not.

o Vehicles cleanliness is inadequate.

o The transit rail routes (MFSE, BSS and trolleys) are reasonably reliable. Buses on the other hand are overcrowded and frequently off-schedule.

o SEPTA does not communicate adequately with riders, especially when there is a change to existing service. [me again - not sure what that means - an emergency, a new routing, ???]

Anyway, HOW MANY TIMES DO THESE SAME CONCLUSIONS HAVE TO BE REACHED BEFORE THEY SINK IN AT 1234?

I've had a couple of e-mails asking about the newsletter. To the best of my knowledge you have to be a member of the CAC to receive it. You might try contacting them at the addresses / phone #s / links on the website to see if they are willing to let non-members have a copy on a one-time basis.
