On the RVL today:
  • 4120 - C2M - C4 - 3 C2Ms - 6043 (first C4 coach I've seen on the RVL in a long time)
    4116 - 5 C2Ms - 6031
    4125 - 5 C2Ms - 6024
But where were they going without ever knowing the way?

There are actually two Comet IV cab cars in Raritan today; 5020 and 5027. One of them is the cab for a seven-car set.

The shop train from hell ran last night. The entire 4143 + 6 set was dragged mercilessly by 4214 to the MMC. When it passed, it sounded like the 4143 was sufficiently dead in tow.

There's a Geep on the RVL!

I saw 4145 pushing five C2Ms and a Comet V cab this morning around 8:30 at Union — couldn't get the cab number since I was in class.

There are actually three, then. GP40FH-2s 4142 and 4145, and GP40PH-2 4150.

4145 is also a PH-2, along with 4150.

I thought 4142, along with the rest of the FHs, are called "warthogs"?

Most of us NJT ers call them widebodys or Fat bodies.

Excuse the brain fart. I was typing faster than my head was thinking. But, yeah, fat-bodies/fat-backs/warthogs/dead weight/shop dragqueens/etc.

I personally like the call the FH's "crap". Haha

I also don't get why NJT doesn't do anything to "touch-up" the paint on the PH2's since they will be in service for quite some time and have chipped paint all over their noses.

Several FHs are known as the anchor from the Titanic. Dont forget the MN FHs too, aka Metrocrap.

Let's also not forget the obscene nicknames which can't be repeated here, but are generally heard flying from the engine room while the engineer is attempting to troubleshoot an FH. You know, the kind also heard from engineers on the 4409.

Unless things have gone down hill with the 4409 that used to be a hell of a motor - It always seemed that if the train was late for whatever reason, if the 4409 was powering it, the engineer would make up time!!!

Also, the 4135 is one of my favorites (with my limited experience of course :-) That sucker has great brakes and really moves. I was getting up to 80mph faster with that one than any other loco on the RVL.......the dynamics really howl on her too :-)
