Poughkeepsie Train Station Renovation and TOD

Post by Jeff Smith » Thu Mar 22, 2012 8:53 am

Poughkeepsie seeks to renovate train station
Plans to significantly renovate the City of Poughkeepsie train station are moving forward at Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) Metro-North Railroad offices. According to a memorandum released by Metro-North and titled “Metro-North and the City of Poughkeepsie Look Forward to Planning Transit-Oriented Development at the Train Station” (TOD Memorandum), the city hopes that this initiative will “develop easier and better access to the trains and the riverfront, add recreational opportunities [and] help create business and economic engines.”

A more direct path between the station and Walkway Over the Hudson would be something worthwhile for them to consider.

Helicopter, or elevator, maybe? The bridge is something like 200 feet above the station.

And about a half mile north of the station.
Hurry up and wait at the signal!

They're going to put in an elevator from the waterfront (and a bridge over the Fallkill Creek to get from the waterfront near the station to the waterfront at the walkway). Story on the walkway website (& it's been in the local papers).
