The Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) on March 6 awarded NRE a five-year contract to overhaul six EMD GP40-2H locomotives that are part of the state’s fleet and operated on the Metro-North-dispatched Shore Line East service.
...
NRE said one of the key factors in ConnDOT’s decision to award the contract to NRE is “the fact that NRE will produce more than 90% of the locomotive content in house. This was a key factor in NRE guaranteeing delivery of the locomotives within 450 days of receipt from ConnDOT.”

Re: CtDOT/SLE GP40-2H STATUS THREAD
Three GP40-2H units are supposed to be shipped out to NRE at Mt Vernon, IL for rebuilding; when the first one comes back the next will go out.
CTDOT is still negotiating the contract for rebuilding the P40s.
Another item to be on the lookout for - CTDOT has begun testing M8 MUs between New Haven and Old Saybrook on the Shore Line so that they can begin SLE service once the diesels are moved over to CtRAIL service.

The #6695 has gone to NRE for rebuild. Can anyone confirm the other two unit numbers that accompanied it?

The 6696 has been prepped to be sent out leaving only 6697 and 6699 active on the SLE roster for the GP-40's.

That contract has already been awarded with locomotives already shipped out. It's pretty unlikely that it's been cancelled now.

That looks like a botched entry. This is the one for the geep overhaul:

Re: CtDOT/SLE GP40-2H STATUS THREAD
this week the 4 units CDOT purchased from NJT were on move in New Haven yard (towed) possibly to get readied to be send for overhaul.
If Conductors are in charge, why are they promoted to be Engineer???

Re: CtDOT/SLE GP40-2H STATUS THREAD
I'm hoping to be able to make a trip over to the East Coast from the UK some time in the next few months, with the primary objective of seeing and riding behind some of the older diesels that are still in service with the commuter operators. I have a pretty good idea of the status of most of the fleets in operation along the NEC axis, with the exception of CDOT/SLE. So, simple question: are any of the GP40-2H locos still working on Shoreline East services, and if so are there any particular trains they are likely to be found on, or can they show up on any of the services between New London, New Haven and the through trains to Stamford?
Any help appreciated!
