Are they going to wear a disguise too? It's not like the train crews don't recognize the managers. How do you think word spreads so quickly?
Now, if you're a commuter, figure out what train the big shots commute in on and make that one yours too!

I know that on some railroads it was common practice for the Division Superintendent's chief clerk to give a heads-up to anyplace on the division the Superintendent was headed to that day. And even without that, the first person who spotted him would spread the word. (In the army, they used to have photographs of superior officers labeled "Know Your Leaders" on bulletin boards all over the place. Never needed that on the railroad -- they were known.)

I recall my father doing just that many, many years ago-- taking a particular New Canaan branch train b/c he said some official at the MTA rode it. True or not, I don't know...

Tad: This thought has me thinking that this could be a future episode of
"Undercover Boss" depending on how many MNCR employees recognize Joe Guiletti...
Everyone: I think that the thought of Joe Guiletti re-qualifying himself as an engineer
over all of the MNCR routes is really interesting...Not only would he be allowed to use
Metro-North's executive train he could literally run it himself if he chose to...Having
experience in a vital railroading craft like engineer can possibly earn more respect for
him from the workforce at MNCR because he was - and probably still is - "one of our own"
coming up through the ranks as a career railroader at MNCR itself and Conrail's
Metropolitan Region and I feel that not only does he remember where he came from
he is probably the leader that MNCR needs during these current tough times...
