I can see people saying the through running of trains mentioned in the release means that this will happen next week. But these are just things to be studied as options. This doesn't mean M8s are going to Philadelphia or Boston anytime soon.
Hurry up and wait at the signal!

But it doesn't say anything about the Gateway Project. Does this mean that it won't occur?

That project is not an MTA-affliated project so I suppose it's not in their place to say "if Gateway comes to fruition we can do X Y and Z" and so forth, especially since it isn't a done deal aside from the funding for the tunnel box. ARC I believe did have MNR as a partner in some form, but so far Gateway is at least a strictly an Amtrak project for the time being with no involvement from the MTA as of yet.

But wouldn't the MTA contribute to the Bergen Loop?

When the Arrows are gone, perhaps they'll just do so on the Thanksgiving specials.
Since my friend continues to chain smoke nonstop, she is probably an Alco.

They'll have to upgrade a whole boatload of overhead wire systems first. Either that or add lots and lots of third rail, as the M8's cannot run south of the phase change near GATE.

Both MN and LIRR in the long range plan, will need to replace their Dual-mode power and loco hauled coach fleet, planning for
a "C-5" coach and a MPI/GE dual mode should start around 2020-2022 time frame,shared by both(hopefully).

M8's to Philly??? They can't even run into Penn Station. And since the can't operate on 25hz, they'll never make it to Philadelphia!!
I'm stuck on a sandbar on Cape Cod, and I couldn't be happier!!!

No ARC did not have MNR or LIRR or any other branch of MTA as a partner.

Gateway currently is an Amtrak project with no involvement from MTA. That could change, but has not as yet.

Is it true that the only way the MTA would contribute would be for the Bergen Loop?

They mention a third track from Crestwood to NWP. Was the line 3-track at any point in the pace? The ROW seems quite wide in places, particularly approaching the station in White Plains from the south.

From photographs I've seen from the 1930s, etc. I don't believe it was ever more than 2 tracks between those two points even though Hartsdale for some reason has always had space for another 2 tracks that seem to have never been put in; it was the same at Bronxville and Tuckahoe until the 3rd middle track was installed. I always wondered why the New York Central left that much space in the center/didn't either fill in the space with an island platform/add other tracks, etc. If they were simply planning ahead for the future should the need for extra tracks ever arise I give them credit since they're going to be needed now ;-)

Are Poughkeepsie train sets likely to be replaced with new locomotives that pull (or push) double-decker rail coaches?
