“Early this afternoon, the East Rockaway Fire Department was notified for a car vs train at the Rocklyn Avenue railroad crossing.

First arriving units discovered a car had been struck by a Westbound MTA LIRR Long Island Rail Road train and pushed 100 yards down the track with an occupant trapped inside the vehicle.

Members from Ladder 403, Heavy Rescue 407, Engine 406, Engine 405, and Engine 404 participated in the effort to extricate the occupant along side of the Nassau County Police Department and MTA Police Department.

The occupant was transported to a local hospital, and Long Island Rail Road Service was temporarily disrupted between Valley Stream and Long Beach to allow for safe operations for members on the LIRR right of way.

All ERFD Units were under command of the Incident Commander, 2nd Lt (Ex-Chief) Ed Reicherter of Ladder 403”
