With the City telling Amazon"take a hike out of here" after all that hype they tried to push. the decking over of Sunnyside and LIC should be moot points
should be no longer needed.
This is all Industrial Zoning here!,developers need to look elsewhere!

Backshophoss, not sure how long it's been since you were in LIC but it has bore the full brunt of redevelopment. The entire area west and north of the station is/will be high rise apartments. Amazon or no Amazon, the city is going through a housing crunch (debatable). The loss of all the industrial space is a problem though. I work out of Red Hook and it's been a big thing there as well as in Gowanus

What really hurts that this is all HIGH END housing with Manhattan based pricing for rentals or condo units built new ,not even trying to reuse
current structures. The "Middle class" is priced out of these areas
As it is Warehouse space in the city is SHRINKING,with most of the retail store support out of state or upstate,then trucked in,
There's Congestion tolling planned for lower Manhattan,that will spread to Queens and Brooklyn soon enough.
Decking over LIC/Hunterspoint and Sunnyside will only make thins worse,creating density levels that cannot be sustained in that area.
Creating a "Judge Dredd" like city.

The area from the Queens Midtown Tunnel to the area of the ESA Facility under construction at Northern Blvd has been designated a "Special Construction Zone". All rules are out the window. Hence the numerous high rise multi-use buildings under construction.
