I actually heard the engineer of Train #1256 call in that incident to 204 a few minutes after 6pm on my scanner that night. He was commendably calm on the radio, considering the seriousness of the incident. Good to hear that he continued to run trains on the LIRR all these years. I too wish him good luck in retirement.
