For a Father's Day gift for my Dad, I digitized all of the railroad-related slides he and his father took, most of which date to the 1960s and 1970s. He generously agreed to freely license them for upload to Wikimedia Commons and, with the assistance of a very helpful Wikipedian (Mackensen: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Mackensen), the vast majority of the locomotives (most of which are EMDs) have been identified.

However, there are still a couple of photos with unidentified locomotives, two of which appear tantalizingly close to being identifiable. After witnessing the identification abilities of this forum first-hand a couple years ago (http://www.railroad.net/forums/viewtopi ... 65&t=99862), I thought that I would try my luck with these remaining unidentified images.

The first is the Baltimore & Ohio's Shenandoah at La Paz, Indiana in July 1963. Mackensen thinks that it is either an E8 or E9:

The second is the Pennsylvania Railroad's Pennsylvania Limited at Plymouth, Indiana, also in July 1963. Mackensen thinks that it is probably an E8, but can't say for sure:

I have five other images I haven't identified, but they are from a much further distance (from https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File ... 7_3-30.jpg to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File ... 9_3-34.jpg), and I doubt they can be positively identified (but I do believe they are all EMD products, a mix of E-units, GPs, and SDs). I'd love to be proved wrong, though, and if anyone thinks that it is worthwhile I could post all five of these images to another thread. And if they can't be identified, that's not a big deal.

Thanks in advance for any identifications that you may be able to make. I appreciate your time.

The UP E-unit almost certainly is a 9. Now, the key question: Is it a NEW -9, or is it a rebuild from a 7?

UP bought their -8s with a HL and a Mars Light, but their -9s with just a headlight.
