I have a lazy man's question - do any of you recall any issues that featured write-ups on the track work associated with upgrading the Downeaster route to 79 MPH or work associated with improvements in the Portland area that will get a Downeaster in/out of the station (and turned on the wye) faster?

Lots of exciting stuff in the latest issue of the Clipper:

LOL @ the "preemptive strike" on brush. Most of it is so overgrown that you get slapped in the face with branches as you go by.

The most recent release of the Clipper has range and even some depth -- NorthPoint got restated, the tv show got started, starter motors and wheels got rehabbed, weeds got killed, and 21st-century lanterns got discussed. There was even mention of one line getting new ties and another getting 15 miles of CWR. What was missing? Passed over like it didn't exist was PAS. Gary Senecal's almost-CSI shot on NERAIL of the north rail of 1 just west of the Wachusett pad (http://photos.nerail.org/s/?p=191490) sure didn't look any better during a 07-30-2011 viewing at 1015. The only difference was an accumulation of rust, which might indicate nothing on 1 since last night's rain either because of weekend doldrums or because the track is OOS.
Wonder how heated the communications between Billerica and Norfolk are or if things have just gone ice-cold...

WOW! What happened there? I'm assuming drainage issues?

The other proposed "theory" is that nothing is going to 'really get better' until the Mechanicville yard rebuild is complete in the meantime supposedly NS doesn't care. I'm not saying I'm buying that just that its been said.

I agree with the assessment regarding the newsletter. It covered a lot of ground and appeared to show a company that was very much focused on enhancing revenues by leveraging existing properties, both physical and intellectual. They appear to have had some substantial success.

Still wondering where that Pan Am plane has been hiding, who owns it and that its been doing since the airline shutdown. Corporate plane perhaps?

Could also be a private plane that was rented and painted in the Pan Am livery for the show.
