CP Rail network.

Hi, could someone help me with some information,please?
I am starting to collect Canadian pacific Ho railway models
and would like to know, what other liveries of locos/wagons
are to be seen on the CP rail network.
I live in N.Ireland so only have videos as reference. I have seen CP trains made up of Soo Line and Delaware & Hudson loco's / rolling stock being used, but what else, Milwaukee road, CSX ?

Any help would be appreciated,

Soo Line, Delaware and Hudson, Dakota Minnesota and Eastern are subsidiaries of CP and their equipment will be found on CP trains in proportion to the size of the company, Soo Line being the largest. Soo Line purchased the Milwaukee in 1985 and so Milwaukee equipment still operates, but in diminishing amounts. The Iowa Chicago & Eastern was also a subsidiary of CP, but was merged into the Dakota Minnesota & Eastern a few years ago. Small amounts of equipment from the IMRL RailLink can also be found. IMRL went bankrupt and was bought by the IC&E. So other than parent CP and the usual mix of other companies and leasers, Soo Line rolling stock would be the most common with covered hoppers being in the majority, some boxcars, gondolas, flatcars, and boxcars. DM&E and IC&E would be less common, while MILW, D&H, and IMRL would be rare. The area you are modeling would make a difference as some of the subsidiary company's rolling stock is in assigned service and doesn't wander the CP system.

Who would transport Algoma Steel's materials, CP or CN?

Canadian Pacific no longer operates in the Sault Ste-Marie area. The old Soo Line trackage in northern Michigan and over into Ontario was sold to Wisconsin Central following the MILW takeover decades ago and is now operated by CN. The CPR line over to Sudbury is now operated by Huron Central (Genesee & Wyoming).

Both CN and HCRY would carry traffic originating from Algoma Steel.

CP let its junior ownership stake in IMRL be extinguished in the bankruptcy proceedings. The IC&E remained as a separate railroad after CP acquired the DM&E, Cedar-American Holdings, and IC&E for about two years. The CP got around to simplifying its subsidiary corporate structure and merged IC&E and Cedar-American into the DM&E, so only the DM&E remains of the three companies.

Worth considering with regard to Milwaukee Road: After purchase by Soo Line, the un-repainted MILW locomotives had three paint schemes I can think of:

1. standard MILW orange w/ black top

3. "bandit", where the standard MILW orange was painted over only where the "Milwaukee Road" lettering was, leaving the rest of the body orange. This reminded someone of the face mask a bandit would wear to protect their identity, leading to the "bandit" nickname. This black patch job has worn poorly and most units still in bandit paint 30 years later are faded, peeling, and the MILW label is faintly visible.
You can find these in model, but they're likely custom. Check ebay.

Also worth noting: in 1955, Union Pacific shifted their passenger trains from a CNW routing Omaha-Chicago over to the parallel MILW. MILW, in their state of perpetual money shortage, started to paint their pooled passenger rolling stock in UP Armour Yellow. They realized it was cheaper to paint trains this way, so all MILW passenger trains - those to the north woods of Wisconsin and Michigan, Chicago commuter trains, and Milwaukee/Minneapolis service - were painted UP Armour Yellow with MILW lettering and logos. Obviously none of this was done under the auspices of CP, as the CP buyout happened well after MILW shifted their passenger trains to Amtrak and Metra. I'd leave it to the MILW experts to correct me if MILW had any yellow F's working freight at the Soo takeover.

And if you really want to have a go at some searching, look for a "Northern Alberta Railway" model. NAR was half-owned by CP and CN for quite a few years.

Where are you in Northern Ireland? My family came over from Belfast in 1773.

There's a leasing company that has some GE AC44 locomotives in a blue paint scheme. CP leases some of them: I've seen one in their Edmonton AB yard.

The 'Bluebirds" belong to Citigroup Leasing (CEFX).
