Interesting that Trains Magazine has a picture of the engine with Superliners at the same location.

Edit: On closer inspection they are Superliner liveried California Cars!

If Conductors are in charge, why are they promoted to be Engineer???

$11.333M each locomotive. Is that a good price?

for AC propulsion and parts and training yup.
Commuter cars are over 3 million , EMU cars are about 3.8 million or more.

It's hard to tell how much spares or services are bundled. I was just wondering how it compared to other Charger purchases or other locomotive purchases. Now that they have been around for a little while, how is the QSK95 prime mover working out?

Notice the third pic on the right. One unit and 12 Superliner cars, and no baggage car. Am I reading too much into it........I don't think so.

Interesting development. Siemens could potentially become the only supplier for both cars and locomotives.

Well maybe they deserve it. They seem to be the only manufacturer out there making good problem-free stuff!

Oh, and need to add this edit: AND ON TIME!

I fully expected Amtrak would buy more of these locomotives for themselves.
Which brings up the following question, is 75 enough?
To answer that's let's look at Amtrak road locomotives roster now.
Per http://on-track-on-line.com/amtk-roster-engines.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
P42 (1-201) 185 active
P40 (800-843) 13 active
P32AC-DM (700-717) 18 active (refurbishing program underway)
P32-8 (500-519) 18 active
F59PHI (450-470) and (2001-2015) 11 and 15 active (recently sold 21 of these to METRA, i'm assuming 450-470).
Will not include separately maintained NCDOT locomotives.
Old road diesels totals up to 249
Siemens SC-44s orders to date:
IDOT (4601-4633) 33
CDOT (2101-2120) 20
WDOT (1400-1407) 8
Subtotal 61
New today 75
Total orders to date 136

So we are still short 113 locomotives for a one per one replacement.
One could argue the 18 P32-8 (Pepsi cans) may not be replaced soon because they are often used for switching duties, and the 18 P32AC-DM may not as well having been recently refurbished. I'm thinking NYDOT will eventually be purchasing most of the replacements for these Dual Mode locomotives for Empire services.

So subtracting that 36 from 113 leaves Amtrak 77 locomotives short. So some P42s will probably be around for some time to come.

Amtrak has always ordered in batches, never has an order been placed for total fleet renewal. so yes 75 is enough for initial order.

I love that Amtrak is going to order Charger units for their long distance trains. What will they order for their state sponsored trains in the Northeast, especially the ones that are extension of NE Regional trains? I hope that they order Chargers for those ones as well.

With this big an order, maybe Amtrak could get Siemens to throw in aerodynamic noses?

Would look a hell of a lot better but without the ugly Brighline "streaks".
