I realize that CT rail trains are meant to connect to Metro North trains. Was just pointing out that the CTrail trains will allow a couple of additional "unofficial" Amtrak connections to be made beyond what Amtrak will be running.

I'm just saying even though it's great the corridor is getting more options, connections between Shuttles and Regionals are often under ten minutes. Now some are 20 or more.

They seem to have done that sometime recently, at least on the website. Can't speak to whatever paper schedules may be in place at stations, if indeed there are any.

Longest one I see is one of the new ones, 451 which connects to Acela 2151. This is just a guess but they may want to get 451 into New Haven early enough so that people who may be using it to commute to New Haven for 7 AM have enough time to get to work. 2151 departs 7:06 so 7:56 would be cutting it close for commuters. 451 is one of the new Shuttles so commuters were likely in mind when they scheduled that one. Another long one is 475 in the evening. Has 475 always stopped at State Street Station? I was under the impression only 495 and 476 stopped there presently. If this is a change maybe they are giving 475 a little padding if they are adding that for commuters.

They must have literally just done that today. It was still showing yesterday. Thanks for info.

Hopefully they'll be done with the booking site updates for the new trains soon. Trains 136 and 148 now show their new times today.

This is what Schedule is now showing if you punch in a Springfield to New Haven for June 11th Anytime:

Mon 5:23 am Mon 6:42 am Direct 1hr 19min 451
Mon 5:57 am Mon 7:23 am Direct 1hr 26min Northeast Regional 141
Mon 7:08 am Mon 8:29 am Direct 1hr 21min Shuttle 495
Mon 9:05 am Mon 10:26 am Direct 1hr 21min 471
Mon 12:15 pm Mon 1:36 pm Direct 1hr 21min 473
Mon 2:50 pm Mon 4:15 pm Direct 1hr 25min Vermonter 55
Mon 3:58 pm Mon 5:21 pm Direct 1hr 23min Shuttle 475
Mon 5:44 pm Mon 7:05 pm Direct 1hr 21min 417
Mon 7:32 pm Mon 8:52 pm Direct 1hr 20min Shuttle 479

No Shuttle name. They haven't yet built the connections in yet so if you do Springfield to NYP you won't see 451/471/473/417 listed.

SPRINGFILED, Mass. (WWLP) - - MassDOT has awarded a contract for approximately $8.2 million to construct a new Platform C at Union Station in Springfield.

MassDOT spokesman Patrick Marvin told 22News the new platform will include significant accessibility improvements and upgrades, including an elevator.

Marvin said the 362 foot long, 18 feet wide platform will be 5 feet high and built on top of the existing platform to meet federal accessibility regulations for Amtrak and CTRail customers.

The construction is expected to be completed by November 2018.

It seems odd that the new Platform C will be roughly 40 feet shorter than the one in Holyoke. Also, I thought the platform would be raised to four feet, not five.
Mind the gap

A platform can be 5 feet high above grade and still be 4 feet high above the top of the rails. ;)

The platform is long enough to allow doors to be opened on 5 cars. This should be plenty for Springfield. The emergency egress ramps to grade level at each side may be what is limiting the length.

They have added the connections to the Amtrak ticket site for the new Shuttle trains launching June 9th except for the ones that connect to Acela. The new trains themselves have been on there now for a little while now but only showed up if you looked up a trip between SPG and NHV. If you do a trip now from any Springfield line station to any NEC destination you will now see the new trains. Nice to see this, Springfield line folks now have some more choices.

Is it just because they are only restoring one of the tunnel stairwells and capping the other one that they need the grade level egress - would they still need that if they restored the second stairwell also?

As far as I know, both stairwells and an elevator will be open on Tracks 4 and 6 once the platform is completed.

According to the project drawings (which can be viewed here: https://www.commbuys.com/bso/external/b ... entUrl=bid" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) only stairwell 5 will be reopened and stairwell 6 will be capped over. The elevator landing in the tunnel will be in the middle of the tunnel directly across from stairwell 5 unlike what was done for the current platform D entrance where the elevator was built where the second stairwell originally was. If you visit the station now the area around stairwell 5 and the new elevator area is walled off with temporary partitions while former stairwell 6 was covered over by a permanent sheetrock wall. The two egress ramps are on each end of the high level platform and go down to grade level to the paved walkways that currently cross the tracks. These ramps will have gates on them and be for emergency exit and employee use only. I'm guessing these were required because they are only restoring one tunnel stairwell and to meet regulations need to be able to accommodate a worst case situation where full trains parked at the platform need to be evacuated. This would also provide an alternative route for employees to assist passengers with mobility needs or in wheelchairs if the platform C elevator is out of commission via either the platform D elevator or the Union Station rear elevator.
