Better food near Amtrak stations

For NYP if you're looking for pizza, try Don Pepi. The slices are pretty good, especially for being "train station food".

If you want something with a bit more flair, walk two blocks down W 32nd Street towards Broadway into Koreatown and try this place called BB.Q Olive Chicken. It's a Korean fried chicken chain and they have different flavors of Korean fried chicken. The "Secret Sauced" and "Dakgangjeong" boneless wings are to die for. There have been times where I've taken the train into the city just for this Chicken.

It's just two blocks from NYP and gives you something different compared to the tourist trappy places around NYP.

I was in San Jose last year around dinner time, and found myself walking blocks in every direction looking for a bite to eat, but except dive bars. Did I miss something?

New London has a fair amount of decent food in the area. Captain Scott's Lobster Dock is where we went last we were in town, and on the way back took out pizza that we ordered ahead from 2 Wives (they have vegan options). Also good. Neither is that close to the station (if you look at the geography, you see why for Captain Scott's, even though it's right next to the tracks).

I went to college in New London, and it's been years since I was last near the station, but I wonder if Muddy Waters is still open? They closed at 3pm but had great lunches, including H&H bagels (before they got busted for tax fraud).

At NYP, Shake Shack down in the LIRR concourse is always one of my go-to's. I really enjoy their burgers and chicken sandwiches, and have found their shakes to be pretty good.

Stamford, because Subway is crap and that Dunkin Donuts should be torched into oblivion: http://www.burgersbeerbourbon.com/stamford/ - Plan B at the mall is within reasonable walking distance, although if you have luggage, assorted crap in tow it might be a bit much. West Coast burger and the Older Fashioned are my recommendations. They got rid of their blue chip appetizer, which is a shame. Basically kettle chips smothered in bleu cheese sauce, bacon, onions and jalapenos... *drool*

Yeah, if you want Shake Shack, you might as well go to Grand Central Terminal.

I also think they should take out the McDonalds there as well.

There's one at 36th and Broadway if you have to be captive to the dump that is Penn. The one at Grand Central can be a hot mess sometimes.

The best one is the one by Houston St on the West Side IRT if you have time to detour. It's the Innovation Kitchen, where they try out crazy stuff they don't serve anywhere else...yet. The chicken bites started there.

When my girlfriend and I are staying in the city we usually go to the Shake Shack off of Murray Street up the road from the WTC Memorial. So far that's been my favorite location of theirs. The one in Penn is usually a "grab and go" for us, and the one in GCT is nice for getting a seat out of the hustle and bustle, although that seating area can get packed fast and the lines tend to clutter up the corridor to the bathrooms.

Has anyone tried the fried chicken/bourbon place in GCT where Irving Farms was?

I guess this only counts during GCT reroutes, but Xi'an Famous Foods on 45th is AMAZING.
