Break-in at the Buffalo Model Railroad Club 6/15

There was a break-in to the Buffalo Model Railroad Club between Friday night (6/11) and this Tuesday morning (6/15).  As of the 9:00 pm the count was up to 33 locomotives and over 100 pieces of rolling stock were stolen.  These included a custom decaled Sommerset unit coal train (decorated for NYSEG's Sommerset Railroad), all intermodal trains including any containers around the layout, a Conrail rotary dump unit coal train, and all the custom painted and tagged auto racks.  Most all of the models stolen were modern era equipment.  There was also a few structure taken from the HO layout and damage done to our O scale trolley layout.

UPDATE 6/18: None of the club painted equipment or cars were stolen. Also the count is down to 28 locomotives, but they are still counting cars. Few if any of this equipment has a box so be suspicious if someone is selling a lot of equipment in the wrong boxes- or no box at all.

UPDATE 6/20: The majority of the equipment stolen was of modern models and roads, (CR, CSX, CP, Soo, NFRC (club road)) The perp took 28 locomotives, and around a 300 freight cars (We are still counting them).  Notable items stolen included a 30 car Somerset coal train and a 20-car "ML" train composed of custom-tagged Walthers autoracks.  In addition, Every single stack and trailer train--enough for three 20-car trains--was taken.  The perp even took all the containers and trailers that were being used as scenery in the intermodal yard.  All of the locomotives had DCC installed except for the few dummy engines. A few buildings including a Walthers Walton and Son Lumber Yard and a City Classics Roberts Road Mobile Home were also taken. The club is still in the process of documenting all the stolen merchandise and is cooperating with the Town of Tonawanda Police Department to find the thief. The main reason for this email is to alert all modelers in the Western New York area to be alert.  Most if not all of the equipment stolen was not boxed which may make it tougher to sell.

If you have any information, please contact the club: http://buffalocentral.railfan.net/, or contact the staff of RAILROAD.NET. We will keep your name confidential if you can provide us with information that will lead to the recovery of these models or the apprehension of the individuals repsonsible.
