Visited the Syracuse Show this weekend and saw my friend John Hudson of Depot Square Books. I thought this book was completely sold out. Was surprised to find out he has six copies of our 2004 hardcover book on the NYW&B. I know some people were looking for them, so here's the link:

(He also has the new book for sale, too)

I just want to throw in my opinion here and offer congratutlations on the book. I got it last weekend and although I haven't finished it yet, I love what I've read so far. I began by jumping to the section on the Getty Square branch (will read the intro later) and was amazed to discover that I once worked - or so I believe - at the same location in the building that replaced the Getty Square terminus of the NYCRR. Wonderful discovery. Well done and congratulations to all involved. :-)

Just a note to the readers, we have now sold out of the remaining copies we had of Bob Bang and Otto Vondrak's "New York, Westchester & Boston" hardcover. The title has been removed from our website. Thanks for your interest!

Here today, gone tomorrow! :-D John can still get you the new book at a good price, though... and if you're going to be at the NHRHTA Train Show this weekend in North Haven, CT, Bob Bang and I will be on hand to sign some books.

Thursday, December 27th at 1 pm – Remembering "The Old Put"

The "Old Put" as it was affectionately known to its commuting riders was marooned in Yorktown Sixty Years ago during the snow storm on December 26th 1947. Joe Schiavone, author of the recently released book titled "The Old Put" will present a program in the Museum Library/Research Room describing the events that caused the train to become stuck and helpless in Yorktown during a heavy blinding snowstorm. Plan on a fun afternoon. Reservations are appreciated. FREE

I have posted an Errata and Corrections page that I will be adding to from time to time (not too often, I hope). Further corrections are welcomed.

Forgotten Railroads Through Westchester County covers some very interesting railroads–all now relegated to history--and does it in a way that brings them to life. Whether powered by steam, diesel or electric, these railroads all shared one common trait: they were conceived with the idea of serving the lucrative New York City market, but failed... Forgotten Railroads Through Westchester County is an informative and enjoyable book. The writing, photography, layout design and publication are all first rate. I heartily recommend it. --Chris D'Amato
