Two engines for three cars, two of which were empty. Are the grades that steep?

They are beginning to bring down tank cars that have been stored on the 10-mile segment of tracks between Boonville-Lyons Falls. Extra power is required to bring these cars south (usually 50-60 cars at a time).

I have seen them for years in storage. Are they scrapping the cars, are the cars being used again, or does the line need to be cleared for some other reason?

Ben: For the past few years, the cars are taken up in winter/spring and brought off the branch late summer/early fall. Propane tank cars have been stored the last two years, before that it was covered hoppers. Unknown if the cars are held pending scrapping or due to market demand.

Here are two short videos showing moves north:

Thanks for sharing.
Tracks look like they are in good condition for a lightly used line.
Propane shipping season starts around now so hopefully the tank cars are needed in service elsewhere. M&E in NJ also stores propane tank cars seasonally, but in their case I think they store the tank cars fully loaded.
