Just to make you feel worse, just think - you go about 12 hours west - maybe Ohio somewhere depending on how long it takes to get through Buffalo - and they are almost always coming through there in daylight! You need to consider a move!

he might be too young to know Cliff... lol...

all he need to move to middle of Ohio, say.. Greenwich or Willard. And he will see EVERYTHIING at there. and he have short driving distance to anywhere in Ohio if he need to catch goodie...

It's not rocket science, Scott. Sunset tonight is 8:28PM. Allow another 1/2 to 3/4 hour for it to get completely dark, and the train will come some time after that - but before sunup tomorrow.

Good Morning Folks!!! I have received word that CSX train Q008-05 has the Norfolk Southern Heritage #8098, The Conrail heritage. The heritage is leading the train, behind the heritage is CSX 7642, a GE Dash 8-40CW and CSX 9016, a Dash 9-40CW and a NS unit, which I don't know what locomotive it is, to make up the 4 units to lead the hotshot intermodal train. The train left Avon Indiana this morning at 07:10 AM EST/ 06:10 AM CST. What I have been hearing is that this train will reach Greenwich by high noon and reach Cleveland/Collinwood area within half hour to hour. This train should reach Buffalo this evening and might not leave Buffalo until 8, 9, 10, or even 11 tonight. I'm hoping it will leave around 8 but usually it doesn't happen so I won't being praying for that to happen. If this does comes through midnight, the counterpart for this train is Q009, which is a late morning to early afternoon train. The heritage would be trailing to Bedford Park IL (CSX). But knowing CSX it could go on any intermodal trains in New Jersey, just have to see what train it will be on in a day or so. I will once again try to update you guys when I can and when I received more information.

Have a good day and happy railfanning folks!

The HU wewbsite is reporting the Conrail unit passed Grenwich and Marion, OH within the past hour. Therefore, I don't think Q008 will get to Clevland unitl 1;30 PM or so. Sad to say, it looks like the odds of seeing #8098 on former CR rails today in upstate NY are getting even slimmer. I hope, like Scot, CSX will return the unit via the same route... but we'll have to wait and see what happens in NJ.

I think we have a chance....The intermodal trains don't need a inspection or a crew change in Collinwood... Just only to refuel the locomotives... So I am guessing 5-7 into Buffalo and maybe in Rochester between 8-10 tonight... I'm thinking going to Fairport to be on the safe side to catch this thing!

According to the HU website, the Conrail unit was seen in Depew at 8:06 PM EDT. Given the time of sunset, #8098 will reach Rochester in evening twilight... if there are no delays.

HU.com says it was eastbound in Corfu, west of Batavia, at 8:25 pm..
that should put it through Rochester right about now..9:30pm.
(this time of year its now fully dark by 9:00.)

CSX Q008-06 race through Fairport NY at about 9:45 or 9:47 last night... He wasn't wasting no time at all!!! A head of him on the on the west shore was G052 grain train (all were BNSF grain cars) with CSX power, he was waiting for Q008 to pass him at CP359, didn't take long!! Before Q008 came through Fairport NY, there was Q004?, P283, K636, Q158, Q377 & G052.

Q004 had a pair of CSX GE's doing the work, Then P283 with Amtrak 703 roll by, K636 was coming off the shore with 2 CSX 2 CP & 1 NS, then Q158 was also on the Shore with a pair of CSX ES44AH's, Q377 went west at about 10 mph with a AC6000CW in charge, it took about 5-10 minutes for the train to clear Fairport, & then G052 grain train roll by on the shore, he stopped at CP359.

The conductor on board of the train was not calling the unit "NS 8098" he was calling it "Conrail 8098" and I am not joking one bit, he really did!!! What a good night it was!
