Back in the fall of 1976 I was at my grandparents house outside of High Bridge. You could see the CNJ main in the distance form their front deck. I heard a steam whistle as we were going out for Saturday "trading" as my grandparents called grocery shopping.I called my grandfather to hurry up and look, there was a steam train coming. He thought I was crazy until it cam over the arches. it was Freedom Train #1 heading west. I read years later that it was on its way to be repainted into the Chessie Steam Special scheme for 1977 exscursions.
Does anybody on this board have any pictures of that trip or know where I could find any? I'd love to see something of that T 1 on the former CNJ. It's a shame it sits in Baltimore and will probably never run again.

I chased it from Scranton, PA to Morristown and worked a concession wagon from Neptune, NJ to D.C. Maybe someday I'll have those Super 8s digitized.
