"Captain Nick's" in Bangor has a heavyweight Canadian Pacific diner attached to one side, sadly cut open to accommodate diners.

There are a few box cars and caboose eateries in Maine, but I can't pinpoint them.

Dick,

Did you look at some of the photos I linked to? I felt the "T" series sleepers were a better match. Naturally the interior has been gutted of the accomodations but as far as I can tell this car was never a diner. Thoughts?

Best,
George

You may be correct. It hasn't been a wine red color since the early 70's, when it was still lettered for CPR. I always heard it was a diner, but it may well have been a sleeper. Just an assumption. She's only good as half a restaurant today, or parts.

Does anyone know the history of the caboose at "Lil' Caboose" Ice Cream) on Route 28 in Yarmouth MA? It appears to be a real, wooden offset cupola caboose. The main building bears a sign that proclaims it to be "Bass River Depot" but I find no evidence of rail lines in that location on topos from the 1890s through 1940s. The brakewheel on the north end had casting marks on it but it was dark and I could not read them.

Looks like the ATSF coach at the Fall River McDonalds will soon be removed. Last I heard it was heading to the Old Colony & Newport.

Fair use quote
According to employees, one of the oldest McDonald’s will be closing on February 28th until roughly mid June for renovations.

The renovations will involve removing the historic and well known train along with totally redoing the building at 44 William S Canning Blvd in Fall River.

The train has been a Fall River landmark since it first arrived on a trailer in 1982. At one time it had seating so you could eat in it.

When I was growing up, my parents used to stop at Kittery Trading Post on the way to our cottage on Sebago and at the Traffic Circle in Kittery, there was a caboose that was an ice cream place. Hope it is still there...

Worthy of mention is there is once again a restaurant open in the Framingham MA station building. Over the years several restaurants have occupied the building, including Ebenezer's which was an old favorite of mine, but the station stood vacant for many years too.

I went there for a birthday party in March, and there was still signage out front proclaiming it as a "Deluxe Depot Diner". I don't recall it actually being open as such and I'm not sure that ever came to pass, but the restaurant in there now is called Depot 417 (https://www.depot417.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). They have all-day breakfast and lunch and a fair dinner menu. I found the food decent but nothing to write home about.

The interior looked much the same as it had when I used to frequent Ebenezer's. A notable exception was the old NYCTA subway roll sign that once hung above the host's podium at the entrance is long gone. I used to offer to buy it from them every time I went there. Sadly, they never bit and who knows where it ended up after Ebenezer's closed.

It is still there. It is the Bagel Caboose.

For a view of action along the old NH Shore Line plus brewpub beer, check out the Stony Creek Brewery in Branford, CT. The back deck has a nice view of the Branford River and Amtrak/Shore Line East action. Good beer too. In fact I'm sitting there at the moment. :-)

...putting together a list of microbreweries/brewpubs in old railroad stations or other railroad-related buildings...combines two of my favorite interests...railroads & beer...anyone know of any candidates?

It's not in New England, but somewhere near the top of your list should be Steam Whistle Brewing, located in the former Canadian Pacific roundhouse (part of which is also a rail museum) in downtown Toronto. Tour the museum and then grab a pint!
