UP Heritage Unit on NRHS Excursion

On Father’s Day, June 17, 2012, NRHS ran a special excursion from Chicago Union Station to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Originally intended to depart at 10:30 A.M., the train was delayed two hours due to track repairs and late passengers. The special finally got under way around 12:30, and I was fortunate to catch it on video at Elmhurst.

The heritage of the passenger cars includes Pennsylvania, New York Central, two Milwaukee Road Super Domes, and a “Beaver Tail” observation. Power was the SD70ACE UP Heritage unit #1995 and Amtrak P42DC #40.
Here is video of this rare movement:

That is not a beavertail, that is a skytop lounge. Beavertails have small rear windows. Great catch!
