The NY subway system will never go interstate, simply not happening and impossible to fund.[/quote] I do not think that the Seven Extension to Secaucus is impossible to fund. You could prefer the 7 Extension on the grounds that it's better than nothing, and ARC was worth nothing from the beginning -...

What is the height of the M-8 Car above the rails?

How high above the M-8 is the catenary?

Yes, probably so. The extraction point for the TBM would be in the SE quadrant of 12th Ave and W. 30th Street, approximately 300 feet from the end of the concrete casing (don't call it a "tunnel box"). Then what would be the construction method in the 300 foot distance from the extraction...

Suppose we had to choose between ARC and Seven Extension to Secaucus, which of the two would be the best way to meet future travel needs?

Suppose that a TBM is necessary for part of the Manhattan segment. How shallow (close to street/surface level), can the TBM be used/bore? There is no blanket answer to that. It depends on lots of things - geology, soil (grain size distribution), the types of structures located on the ground surface...

I was wondering about the segment under 12th Avenue and perhaps under 30th street in Manhattan.

may sound dumb, but had any tbm construction been started for njt's cancelled tunnels? I mean it was cancelled when they were already working on building the overpass for 1&9 and work on the cliff face was probably a year out. I'd imagine a tbm takes several years to design and build so one sho...

Thus, one can infer that the Hudson tunnel's EIS and engineering should have begun recently... They haven't....... When will they begin, and how long will the study take to complete? Should start soon, I think. Its just a matter of the contracts being signed..... Will you be one of the people worki...

Cool. What is a realistic amount of time that the study can be completed?

Do you think that the Gateway Project can be completed by 2027/2028?

(an EIS doesn't even have funding yet) As far as I am concerned, Amtrak is planning to begin the EIS and engineering for the new tunnels this year. In fact, in the link below, it states "Gateway Program Development Study (26 mos.): Starting in May 2014, this study will focus on development of ...

We are probably 6-7 years away from anything being done with the space saver. The bit in manhattan will likely be constructed before the actual new tunnels, because they plan to connect to the existing tracks. It is also easier to build on land vs under a river. This means the penn station south tr...
