Until recently a MARC liveried former railway post office car had been parked on Track 3 at Camden Station in Baltimore, Maryland. Where has it gone?
Cleveland Union Terminal has been modified some to create Tower City. However the right of way is largely in tact. "The Rapid" still uses the traction concourse. However, the west approach has been narrowed by the construction of the federal courthouse and by construction of the junction f...
I suspect that if and when MN offers it again, it will be well worth it. Several years ago, my son and I took Amtrak from BWI to Harmon to attend the open house. We enjoyed both the ride and the tour. My favorite part was seeing the NYC and NH liveried FL-9s up close, and my son's was the snowblower...
During the last week or two I have observed track working equipment and an area that appears to have fresh gravel adjacent to the southernmost track as I am driving on the ramp from McComas Street to I-95 southbound. I cannot tell whether CSX is working on the existing southern most track, removing ...
I believe that I read UP's business train E's have 645s. Where or when I read it, I do not recall. Perhaps Railfan and Railroad.
I was hoping to find a cool place with "at least" SAM ADAMS lol I tried to google map the neighborhoods and they didn't seem like they have any Microbeer Bars nearby! Again, I took the Light Rail from "Pratt St. Ale House" which was good even though it is not the Wharf Rat!! LOL...
I believe that the spur to the PEPCO plant near Benning Yard in Washington, DC may have had catenary.
I'm guessing Philly - Harrisburg might be one. Hmmm.....Philly to Harrisburg would be interesting, as I know Harrisburg served a lot of long distance trains. Whether they all allowed "receive" and "discharge" passengers in between would be of interest. Then I think there may hav...
From a railroader's perspective: 1. Is there value in the redundancy of maintaining wayside signals and supplementing them with PTC or would the cost be prohibitive? 2. Are the nation's railroads headed toward a system in which computers run the trains with people as monitors? Recently, WMATA experi...
While keeping anyplace clean is an ongoing battle, I was impressed at how clean the Harmon Shops seemed when my son and I visited for the open house two years ago.
As BR&P said, "Very cool - thanks for posting!" -- Several shots of Hudsons accelerating away from the platform seemed to show large puffs of steam from between the engine and tender. Is this exhaust from trailing-truck boosters? That was my guess, too. Steam loco seemed to have steam...
A couple of years ago MNCR played video of an operating snow jet at the Harmon Shops open house. It appeared to work quite well.
What freights am I likely to see on the NEC between Baltimore and Washington?
MARC uses both electric and diesel locomotives. Although MARC electrics are confined to the NEC, MARC diesels appear on the NEC regularly. MARC's practice seems to be to use the electrics for its largest rush hour Corridor trains, and the diesels on smaller non-rush trains.
