Would imagine at the very least for the Shuttles post-May '18 you'd have SPG, WNL (for BDL connection) and HFD, probably a tossup between Berlin and Meriden to keep one stop between Hartford and New Haven.
Tommy there will not be an MNR loco on the set. Amtrak has modified a few P32 sets' shoes to be at MNRR 3rd rail height and further modded some P42s to have a control switch for selecting electric/diesel mode. Sets will have a loco at either end so no need to loop or have an MNRR loco.
Confirms what the Albany Times Union reported a few weeks ago. Based on Amtrak's service advisory posted on the website re: GCT, it doesn't sound like there will be much in the way of ticketing support based at GCT. Mentions printing tickets at home or displaying on mobile devices.
I have to applaud Mr. Patrick A around here. He notes recognition of what counts for Amtrak - namely trains that show up more or less on time, on which the HVAC works, and are safe from pop-gun toting whackos. All too much of the discussion here relates to the quality of on-board F&B which mean...
I think there is a lot of good that Anderson can do: ... One other key item not in your list was Operational Excellence / Reliability. Delta under Anderson made a big push in striving to improve performance in key operational metrics (i.e. OTP, Lost Luggage), hopefully Anderson will bring this focu...
Any idea as to when the revised Empire Corridor schedules will be released? We're well inside of a month of the repair work beginning.
This in addition to the capacity gains by having all tracks available sans speed restrictions either from construction or temperature extremes. Another big item checked off to bring the line back to a state of good repair, movable bridges up next.
Problem is, the likeliest users will be folks coming from West of 8th Avenue, which is in the opposite direction of the major midtown corporate centers and Broadway/Theater District. Now if the 8th Ave line (A/C/E) exits funnel people into the West End concourse, you'd certainly get more foot traffic.
Empire trains are only 6 cars long I believe, so the platform should be plenty long enough to accommodate.
Since the only trains being routed to GCT are Albany terminating, the amount of Amtrak servicing required is pretty low. Would imagine they could have a few staff members stationed there with mobile ticketing equipment (mini tablet scanners the conductors have) to assist with any connecting passenge...
Albany-Times Union article from Friday notes while it is not official these are the projected trains which will be routed to GCT: Southbound: 230,236,242 Northbound: 233,235,239 Weekend service will not be impacted (Monday-Friday only) Source: http://www.timesunion.com/tuplus-business/article/Region...
This push for electrification as a top priority for NEC branch corridors (Empire Corridor, Springfield Line, Danbury Branch) ignores the many less arduous improvements that could be made at a fraction of the cost of electrification. Raising running speeds through improvements either in signaling, tr...
Hot off the presses, issues on the New Haven Line this evening:
"Customers should anticipate delays of 20 to 30 minutes in both directions due to a track condition requiring attention."
The current upgrades install kitchen-sink crossing protection at those spots: quadrant gates, wayside horns, and advanced warning devices. That's enough to increase the speed limit through Wallingford cluster from 25 MPH to 80 MPH and Meriden cluster from 25 MPH to 60 MPH . However, immediately sou...
