OK since it seems that everyone on board is OK and now off the train can I ask why we are calling it the "Coastal" Starlight? Isn't it the Coast Starlight? Also I noticed that literally every news report said Coastal as well. I checked the Amtrak website and it still says Coast Starlight, ...

I just recently took the LSL from Chicago to Springfield and I must say that I echo the sentiments of others on this thread. I had breakfast and lunch, the breakfast itself was incredibly disappointing, the fruit was fresh but the muffin was a rock, nothing very satisfying about it at all. In fact m...

Why were the cars in Wallingford, CT? Seems a little off the path to bring them back to DC. Sorry if off topic,

It honestly boggles my mind why we don't use DMU's more in the US. After being on many different units in both Ireland and England, they seem like a comfortable reliable way to travel. I know we had issues with the RDC's, and more importantly the SPV's but why can we use proven off the shelf technol...

I boarded that same Amtrak Shuttle in Hartford going to New Haven. Thanks to Amtrak for the quick thinking! It made my day!

In my experience in England, it has seemed to work well, but there the trains are much more frequent and many times in a set consist of one or two EMU or DMU sets. Also it seems that even though many people have assigned seats not everyone (including my wife and I on our first trip) even use them. I...

One of my favorite places to watch trains! Everything around there is quite good and on a nice day its a short walk to some nice small shops if you'd like to make a day of it. Sorry if I got off topic.

Just noticed that there is a Metroliner cab car (not the 9800 which was on the other end of the train) on the end of the train behind the Phase 1 Unit. Anyone know why they did that instead of just another Amfleet car, which i assume has more seating anyway?

Just bought my tickets for the second year in a row! Cant wait for this, should be a great ride.

Interesting, though I feel bad for the engineers these past couple years must have been frustrating.

Not sure if this is totally on topic, but when Amtrak replaces the trains with buses on the Springfield line, who operates that service (ct transit, Greyhound etc)?

On a related note, what happens to the crews that were running the cancelled trains? Are they reassigned or furloughed?

It depends on the train. For example, train 195 on weekends has always had a Boston Crew to NHV and a NHV train Crew NHV-NYP, but Boston engineer works BOS-NYP. Other trains, such as 171 and 86 have always been a Boston train Crew and engineer together the entire trip between BOS&NYP. Wow reall...

I actually have had a question about crew bases, specifically New Haven, do some crews go from Boston to NYP or does every crew change out at New Haven? I know the Springfield crews change at New Haven but what about the crews coming from/to Boston? I also have noticed the crews always change at NYP...

Gotta say the Autumn Express was a great time! Hats off to the crew and volunteers who made all of it happen. Got to agree about the service at NYP, its honestly a shame how bad that station can be sometimes, I usually try to spend as little time there as possible.

That didn't occur to me, interesting. Although I must say that the food and drink in the food court has always seemed reasonable to me. Even by Manhattan standards.
