Yes, the MBTA is too deep into contract to find new company to finish the order and is desperate for new cars, mostly on the Red Line.

Don't know the history, but there are generally 2 maximum speeds in North America for rail transit, either 50-55mph or 70-75mph. The 70-75mph is usually for subway type for those systems willing to have extra maintenance and energy costs or have very long runs. Braking effort is specified generally ...

MBTA PCCs currently are around 1944-1945 and were commonly known as wartime cars.

The 1963 cars on the Red Line were crappy to begin with and I was glad to see them go. But the 1800's are nice cars that I wish would be overhauled and kept in-service for the foreseeable future. And who knows LOL? If the CRRC order continues the way it's going, maybe that will actually end up happ...

Article from Boston Globe on speed restrictions states 40mph is max on the rapid lines:

MBTA operating personnel like the Type 9s the least among the 3 Types and were not happy that MBTA management gave the Type 10 order to CAF.

3295 is not allowed to be used in general service for various reasons. It is not compatible with the remaining PCCs and has a non-standard motor controller, forerunner to the motor controls used by the Orange 01100s. Plus it is a historic vehicle, the only body style of that type ever built. It was ...

The Hawkers on the Orange and Blue originally ran at 50mph, but were speed governed to 40mph because of braking problems. Don't know how fast the Siemens are allowed to run or the CRRCs.

Red line max is 50mph, when it first opened to Quincy 70mph was the norm only on that branch. Green line in the past was 50mph on Riverside, but cars are now governed to 40mph.

The 01800s have GE propulsion electronics and parts are not readily available, especially since GE has left the transit field. This was another reason to replace the entire Red Line fleet.
