Re: SEPTA & NJT museum

I think probably the biggest hurdle in having either SEPTA or NJT cars in a museum is that they are seen as "too new", and not "historical" enough. I think the major problem is that most of these commuter agencies are considered to be "antiseptic", if that makes sense. They have no history, no legen...

Re: Modeling a ALP-45DP,with model should I use?

Not only that, but they have just announced the AMT version. I got my NJT model yesterday, super fun! My main complaint is the pantograph, but most people don't use them anyway. Installing the grab irons will be interesting as well.

Re: Walthers Horizon Commuter Cars

Its to bad they don't do some of the center-door variations, or maybe some more prototype specific details. To be honest, I'd be shocked if they re-ran them without a major update anyway.

Re: Question about the "WAKE", the Tropicana Juice train in

I was the Engr. on the Juice Train Many Times. On the Prr and PC it was called the MD6B Pot Yd to the Meadows yd in Kearny the later it was the WAKE then changed to OJT. I ran it always with # E-44's Only ran the NEC in those days. That was one tough train to handle! The emppy cars would go south o...

S-motor Pilot trucks

Hi, I'm working on an S-motor (an S2) and I'd like to convert it from a two-wheel pilot truck to a 4 wheel pilot truck. I am trying to determine the diameter of the wheels, and the wheel base. My understanding is that the pilot wheels were 33" on the "2 wheel" pilot, so i'm assuming it must be small...

Push-Pull Vs EMUs?

I feel like this question probably covers an area more broad than NJ transit itself, and if there is a better place for this thread, feel free to move it. What is the advantages and disadvantages of Push-pull train sets compared to electric multiple units? Why not DMUs instead of of diesel powered t...

Need Drawings/Photos of North Elizabeth

Hey guys, I'm working on a module representing the North Elizabeth train station. Unfortunately, this was torn down sometime in the early to mid 80s to make the new "high-level" platforms, so I cannot visit it for myself. This one has been tricky, since even if the station is visible in photographs,...

Re: Question about the "WAKE", the Tropicana Juice train in

Thank you for your insights zeke! I may have to pick your brain further, as I am curious about the trailvan operations through New Jersey as well. Both of these trains are something I hope to model, but it is difficult to get a good feel for things with just photographs.

Re: Amtrak GG1 Fleet

4877 was returned to tuscan red, As it turns out, 4877 never wore Tuscan red during its PRR career. This was a choice by NJ Transit and whoever else pushed for the repaint. Can't complain though, it did look good, and besides, 4935 was already sporting the typical Brunswick Green. The GG!s were ret...

Re: Walthers HO Scale Metroliners

Lets be fair, a rebuilt metroliner is no walk in the park. The roof hump is just one of your worries. You'll also have to fill in the side air intakes (only the very early PC rebuilds retained these, and they did not have this kind of roof hump), and modify the underframe and repaint it black. Also,...

Re: Amtrak GG1 Fleet

Side note, apparently, the Penn Central actually renumbered several of its GG1s in the "4900" series so that the last two digits were not the same as any Amtrak GG1. This resulted in one PC GG1 being renumbered 4939, one number higher than the original GG1 number block. This was apparently done prio...

Amtrak Metroliner Paint question

Hey guys, Does anyone know of any unrebuilt Metroliners in the Phase II paint scheme? I know #820 had a Phase II nose, but I recently found a photo of an unrebuilt Metroliner Snack Bar coach in complete Phase II paint. Unfortunately, it is being hauled by a GG1 and this obscures the road number. Unt...

Is there a chance I'd be able to contact these people? I'm trying to get a set of the control stands (Master Controller and brake valve) and other cab fittings for a display I'm working on.

Re: NEC Equipment Moves and Test Trains

Hmmm...that's strange. G.E.C., the photo that you posted shows a P40 as the second unit. The train I saw only had PL42's. Is there a chance that there a two very similar consists running around? Either that or the PL42 was swapped for a P40 at MMC upon turning back for the ACL. I was distracted by ...
