Re: Boston Surface Railroad: Worcester-Providence Commuter Rail

I think you are seeing an aberration of the google search - because the location of the depot in the details is 1 Depot Square, which is also the purported location of BSRC, it's showing BSRC as the "location" in the search result.

Re: North Adams - Boston Passenger Service Study

More parking at 495 (Littleton) really would be a good idea, regardless of what happens to this study. The lot of regularly overflowing, despite raising parking to $6 a day. Christopher When I have to get into Boston or Cambridge for one of my clients, I could take a later train except I wouldn't b...

Re: Work on old Harvard platforms?

I remember once having the "railfan" seat on I think a #3 car, and the motorman had the lights on VERY bright going through the old Harvard station - it was the best view I've ever seen of it. But it only happened once. Were they "high beams" vs. the regular headlights?

Re: NEW snow fighting equipment

I saw several short clips of a new-looking self-powered track running unit - looked like just a large snowblower like a town would use for a sidewalk, but meant to run on the tracks. It might have been for the above-grade parts of the subway or trolley lines though.

Re: Trackside Bars, Hotels, and Restaurants in New England

I checked in to what was Bainbridge's in Chelmsford, which has closed abruptly in 2009...apparently in 2010 the space was taken over by the original owners of The European in the North End, and opened as "Aprile's European Restaurant". I believe it still has views of the tracks. http://aprileseurope...

Re: Narrow gauge railroad under the MA capital?

Charles Bullfinch designed the State House. He used narrow gauge equipment when he leveled the two hills to fill in Back Bay - perhaps similar was done for Beacon Hill and/or building the State House, and it is just a vestige of that?

Edit: Oops...I guess we are saying the same thing :)

Re: 2016 Commuter Rail Delay Discussion Thread

I was just coming here to see if there were other reports...currently issues on Lowell line inbound. Friend on the train reports that they were told that trespassers on the track were hit. They are boarding another train. MBTA site reports: Lowell Line Train 336 (6:10 pm from Lowell) extra train set...

Actually, looking older aerial views at http://www.historicaerials.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (I'm not sure how to provide a link to the map location exactly), but it DOES appear that there was a bridge over the tracks immediately south of Franklin Park station in Revere, an...

Re: Mystery railroad station near Boston

Hmm...Franklin Park station on the Saugus Branch seems to match that architecture: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/03/Franklin_Park_station_1907_postcard.jpg Looking at the location, the curve to the right does seem to match a looking towards Boston alignment - but there hasn't been...

Re: Fitchburg Line Upgrade Discussion

I...uh...don't think the Fitchburg Line has a large native cheetah population needing to recalibrate its overtakes. For native humans 60 will generally leave you just as smooshed as 79 with negligible difference in warning time. If you're used to judging based on distance, however...that train is g...
