Maybe they should just make it a tunnel/subway if parcels are too tough to get, or too cost prohibitive! :-D They would still have to do mineral takings beneath private property. It's likely a fraction of the market value of a parcel at the surface, but they would still have to compensate. A relati...

Pen15? Really? Was that name thought up by 13 year old girls or their grownup selves? (it is a very funny show by the way). Not very original.

Apologies for resurrecting such an old thread, but, while hiking the Middlesex Fells today, I had the opportunity today to walk on what I think is a remnant of the ROW on the east side of I-93. I've been on the much more discernible ROW on the west side many times before, but never thought to look e...

When's the last time anyone did a study on service to St. Johnsbury? Dunno, but personally, I would love that-provided there is a stop in Wells River-as I have a second home just across the river near Woodsville, NH. If anything, I think a DMU shuttle from WRJ to STJ would be more appropriat...

There are trains every hour from 0700-1900 leaving Dublin (city pop 520k) for Cork (city pop 120k) over a rail distance of about 160 miles. There are 5x daily services to other places even smaller. The difference being, of course, that the passenger rail operator owns and dispatches the tracks . No...

At the present time a wreck between a BNSF freight and a welded rail train neat Truxton Az is making havoc with #3 and # 4,delays up to 1 hour, and plenty of congestion on the Transconn in western Az as well. #4 is over 10 hours late into Chicago tonight. Also, its consist was backwards at La Plata.

I was walking along Cortes St in Boston's Back Bay today (6/2) when I saw 449 with a VII diner (Nashville) ahead of two sleepers (and behind several Amfleet coaches) as it made its way into BBY before heading off to Chicago and points in between. This may be the first time I have ever seen a diner, ...

Yet I see no activity inside North Station where you would think a big hole in the south wall would be opening up somewhere to complete this passage. Punching a hole in the wall to access the new routes between Hub on Causeway and the existing North Station will probably be about the last thing the...

South Station in Boston was renamed The Governor Michael S. Dukakis Transportation Center at South Station in 2014. Dukakis himself opposed its renaming, and I've never heard anyone refer to it as such.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is a private company owned by the state after all. Nope. It is a body politic and subject to the same and similar rules and regulations that govern other bodies politic, like the other authorities (Massport, Steamship, other RTAs, Convention Center, et...

Regarding tipping (and forgive me if this was already addressed -it didn't pop up to me in a quick scan of the prior posts), you should also tip the waitstaff in the dining car, even though the cost of the meal is included with your fare. A customary tip of 15-20% of what the cost of the meal would ...

........there's talk of getting canadian customs to join in the station as a 1 stop clearance point for 63/64. That would just make too much sense! I believe that the treaty that allows U.S. CBP officers to do customs and immigration checks in Canadian airports is reciprocal, however I don't think ...
