Re: Brattle Loop in service (temporarily)

As best I can determine, the last regularly scheduled service on the Brattle Loop was a short-lived shuttle between there and North Station that ended in 1952, which served as a replacement for the subway service lost when the surface car lines from the loop to Sullivan Square were abandoned. Does ...

Truly the stupidest way to connect Sacramento and Stockton. Instead of the existing downtown Lodi station and a potential downtown Elk Grove station, you get stations out in the middle of nowhere. It doesn't connect to Sacramento Valley Station, so there's no connection with existing Amtrak service ...

It's not quite clear whether BERy planned to keep the El in the Tremont Street Subway, or to eventually move it to a new subway, at the time that it was converted in 1901. Almost immediately it became clear that the streetcar subway was not ideal for the El trains and public opinion favored a new tu...

From 1898 to 1901 and 1908 to 1961, service using the Pleasant Street Incline did run into the subway. It was initially a dozen or more services using the portal, which was quickly whittled down as outlying streetcar lines were rerouted to El stations. (From 1901 to 1908, only the El used Pleasant S...

There's a very good possibility that most or all Franklin/Foxboro Line service will eventually shift to the Fairmount Line to preserve limited NEC slots for increased Amtrak and Providence/Stoughton service. If that's the case, having a timed transfer at Readville to NEC trains for Back Bay and Rugg...

Given the success Vermont has had with the Ethan Allen Express and the Vermonter, I think it's a decent idea. Bennington is the fifth-largest municipality in the state (after Burlington and two suburbs plus Rutland), and Manchester has decent tourist/ski traffic. Compared to the current route, using...

For the second-generation light rail systems in the US, including Baltimore, the Siemens S700 (formerly S70) has a pretty overwhelming share of new orders. They're more or less in continuous production given the number of orders. If Baltimore needs to replace its cars urgently, dollars to donuts tha...

[cynicism]Oh, boy, oh boy, oh boy! Merced to Bakersfield![/cynicism] We will never see LA to the Bay Area. Mark. My. Words. The Central Valley isn't just an empty wasteland, remember. There's over 2 million people in Merced + Fresno + Kern counties, and that population is heavily concentrated along...

Per the 1915 valuation maps , the spur was mostly double-tracked except for the connection to the mainline. The streetcar line to Roton Point followed what is now Wilson Avenue and Old Trolley Way. It crossed under the Wilson's Point spur at Meadow Street, and paralleled it as far as MLK Drive. Is i...

NETransit says 85 active passenger locos as of October 19. Peak service requires 62 locomotives (40 south, 22 north).

I believe it was faulty in design or construction - they were talking about having to replace it as early as 2006.

They won't have to. The 32 Airo trainsets ordered for the Northeast Regional, and the 26 for corridor trains operating on the NEC, will operate on catenary or diesel - no more engine switches at New Haven, DC, or Harrisburg.

Seems like having TRE bookable as a Thruway connection would be a good start. There's a lot of missed opportunity where having commuter rail services as Thruway connections would make things easier for passengers.

Yes, the 1971 platform relocation and new entrance were part of the garage project.

The last regular use of the inner tracks was a Causeway Street Terminal - Brattle Loop shuttle that ran until 1952. Shuttles for events at the Garden may have used them until the 60s, though.
