31T and/or 14R. 31T is usually earlier (say 7ish) and 14R heads out late morning, sometimes early afternoon. The intermodals (22K and 206) usually head north around 6am or so as well and would be a good early morning cach . Coal and ethanol may also be in the mix but the 2 intermodals and 2 mixed fr...

DL&W had a concrete coaling structure at East Binghamton. Might be something related to the ashpit. I remember seeing an HO scale Walthers kit of a "cinder conveyor" and this structure looks similar to that kit. I'm not exactly sure, but the cinder conveyor looks to remove ash/cinders ...

But now they bought that Sunbury line. YUP!! that might change thing again... where did 531/2 go now? yup rerouted to Sunbury... so ST is back to shelf again and useless... Not sure I would call the Tier "useless" because an occasional coal train was rerouted off of it ......That Bow coal...

Drove by today and it looks like all of the construction work has been completed for now. Everything appears to be in service and cars are parked on the new sidings. The SD70's and SD45's that are for sale are also parked on one of the new tracks east of McDonalds on Court St. Even with the new trac...

There is a new fall show in Binghamton this year. I believe the folks at Village Train & Hobby in Windsor NY are putting it together (at least that's where I found out about it). More info here http://www.villagetrain.com/images/inde ... e_8x11.pdf

I noticed the NYSW took some cars down to Susquehanna for storage over the weekend. A whole string of those "dirty dirt" FURX gons with the covers on them are sitting at the east end of the SR/Lanesboro siding. Perhaps they're being stored for the winter. Guess they dont need that siding f...

The other end of the Sunbury sub is at Sunbury, PA where it connects in with the NS Buffalo-Harrisburg line. Im not sure of the exact mileage but it somewhere around 140 miles end to end. There are 3 controlled sidings between Binghamton and Scranton at Hallstead PA, Hop Bottom, PA and LaPlume/Dalto...

The cars that have been seen in Binghamton/Kirkwood look to be stone cars for barrett paving in Binghamton, not ballast. I reported on what I thought were tie gons a few weeks ago, but they may have actually been empty (it was late at night and dark, oops) as they never went east or were unloaded. T...

Had some errands to run after work, it was late and dark but it looks like a long string of tie gons sitting next to the Frito-Lay plant. I couldnt get an official count but I would say at least 10 or 12. I imagine they'll be unloading them sometime within the next week. Also saw quite a few NYSW MO...

LOTS of ties marked with orange dots through Kirkwood and down to Great Bend and probably beyond...No signs of tie gons, equipment etc yet though. Only thing I did see this past weekend was a Tartaglia truck picking up some scrap ties from a small project they did last summer, mostly some switch tim...

I drove past Frito Lay and the siding there about an hour ago. Unless they were there earlier and moved, there are no tie gons in the vicinity and there haven't been any in weeks. There is a string of empty ex-Southern ballast/aggregate hoppers that NYSW uses to move stone from Jamesville, NY to Bar...

Just a quick but interesting observation from Memorial day..There's 3 NS gons sitting by the Frito lay plant in Kirkwood and they look (hard to tell when driving) to be loaded with new ties. I've noticed in years past that when NYSW gets ties, they've come in CSX gons. Could just be getting them fro...

I could be wrong but I think Andy's list is correct. CP abolished 250/251 several years ago, right around the start of the recession I think. Only 252/253 and the "super local" 554/555 (Which is partly the old SU-2)remain as "pure" CP traffic.

Personally I have to agree with the others regarding the NYSW. I just dont see it happening. The northeastern RR climate was very different back in the 80's when the stacks started on the NYSW/D&H. Sure, anything can happen, but I wouldnt bet on it.. I went and looked up the Virginia Inland port...

I do. It was 25K. I think the last one ran sometime in Oct-Nov of 2000. I remember watching those, I used to be up early in the am and could catch 25K first and then the NYSW/CSX Q271 not far behind. For awhile after the CR split, they ran an eastbound 24Z as well. All that remained after that was 4...
